Ex-Union leader Spahn wants to withdraw from the budget committee of the Bundestag. "Normal working" is currently "hardly possible" for him, he said. Spahn is criticized for a private trip during the session. Ex-Union leader Jens Spahn (CDU) will no longer be a member of the Budget Committee in the Bundestag in the future.
"After careful consideration over the weekend, I will renounce my seat in the HHA," the CDU politician wrote in a statement to the other union members in the committee. "Everything about me is currently so politicized that normal work will hardly be possible," he added. Previously, the news magazine Der Spiegel and the AFP news agency had reported on this. Spahn went on to write that he "notes and in myself that my resignation in July is still far too fresh to go full steam ahead again, as if nothing had happened".
In consultation with CDU/CSU parliamentary leader Thorsten Frei, he will initially concentrate on his work for the constituency and his family. How it goes on for him, he will decide "with some time interval". Criticism of the absence of a budget meeting A few days ago, there had been a discussion about Spahn, because he was absent from a meeting of the Budget Committee, of which he has only been a member since the beginning of September. Then holiday photos from Sardinia showed up with his husband and child.
This also triggered criticism among some Union members in the Committee on Budgets. According to the ARD Capital Studio, there was a debate in the Budget Group on Friday after several of the 14 members allegedly called for Spahn's expulsion from the Bundestag committee. Group leader Frei had intervened, in the end a kind of probation period had been agreed until the end of the year. There are said to have been calls for Spahn's voluntary withdrawal from the committee.
The 46-year-old Spahn, who was considered one of the decisive figures for the black-red coalition, had also resigned from his own ranks in July after massive criticism of his paternity with the help of a surrogate mother in the USA as group leader. Spahn supporters such as Frei or CSU leader Markus Söder had advocated a rapid reintegration of Spahn into the Union faction.
